September 4

The Holy Prophet and God-seer Moses was born in a time where any male child was killed in fear of overtaking the Egyptian throne. Being saved by his mother, she floated him in a basket in the Nile River and he was rescued by the Pharaoh’s daughter who raised him as his own. At 80 years of age, Moses fled to Mount Sinai where he received the 10 Commandments from God himself. He then led the nation of Israel out of Egypt by foot, crossing the Red Sea as if on dry land. Moses led his people for 40 years in the desert but died before they reached the promised land. During his life and even up until now, the Prophet Moses continues to perform many miracles.

Troparion — Tone 2
You ascended to the heights of the virtues, Prophet Moses; / therefore, you were deemed worthy to see the glory of God. / Having received the grace-filled tablets of the Law, / and bearing the grace of the writing within yourself, / you were the honorable praise of prophets, / and a great mystery of piety.

Kontakion — Tone 2
The choir of prophets rejoices with Moses and Aaron today, / for the fulfillment of their prophecy is in our midst. / The Cross, by which You have saved us, shines forth today. / By their prayers, O Christ God, have mercy on us.
