1st Ode Katavasia of Christmas This hymn is chanted in every Matins (Όρθρος) service from the 21st November until Christmas Day. It is the 1st Ode of the Katavasies of Christmas, written by St Kosmas, Bishop of Maiouma. Most of the hymn is an exact duplication of the opening of the 38th Oration of St Gregory the Theologian on the Feast of Theophany, from the thrice-fold repetition of the exclamatory phrases beginning with ‘Christ’, up to the phrase which St Gregory himself borrows from Psalm 91:1, “Sing to the Lord all the earth”. Christmas Carols at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese

On Sunday evening, 20th December 2015, at the annual Greek Orthodox Archdiocese’s Christmas Carols, the young boys and girls from the youth fellowships (Ομάδες), as well as the men and ladies from the Greek Orthodox Christian Society and Orthodox Ladies Fellowship, performed a number of Christmas carols and hymns. Several other groups such as the Australian Byzantine Choir, the Antiochian Orthodox Church Choir also performed on the night. At the end of the Program, His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos addressed the faithful participants, which also included, His Grace Bishop Seraphim of Apollonias and a number of our clergy.

Hospital visits

On Sunday the 20th of December the Greek Orthodox Christian Society visited a number of hospitals around Sydney, including St George Public, Royal Prince Alfred, Royal Prince of Wales, Westmead, Bankstown, Concord and Canterbury Hospitals, bringing joy through the message of Christ’s Nativity to many patients.
