RELATIVISM – the Catastrophic Concept of our Times

RELATIVISM - the Catastrophic Concept of our Times The theory of Relativity, as described by Einstein (Nobel Prize for Physics, 1921), assumed and subsequently proven correct, that since there is no fixed frame of reference in the Universe, everything is moving in relation to everything else. In our times, those dealing with the abstract, i.e. theorists, philosophers, theologians, writers, poets, etc, - began to claim that all truth is relative to the individuals. This means that morals, religions, art forms, political movements, etc, are to be judged similarly. This concept has adopted the name of Relativism. However, Relativism has a [...]

“Be at peace with one another and with all” (Holy Monday Matins, Ode 8)

Our yearly motto, “Be at peace with one another and with all”, is taken from a hymn written by the famous hymnographer Kosmas of Maiouma of the 8th century. The verse is from the tropario of the 8th Ode of the Canon of the Holy Monday matins service and is chanted on Palm Sunday Evening. St Kosmas became bishop of Maiouma, a port-town near Gaza in modern day Palestine and helped defend the Church against the heresy of iconoclasm. This was a turbulent period. Having this in mind, how is it that St Kosmas still wrote the words “be [...]

Will a loving God condemn sinners on the Day of Judgement?

There is no need for God to judge us. We will judge ourselves. We choose whether or not we want to be saved. Our loving God created us to be saved and for no other reason. He wants nothing other than for us to share eternity with Him in His Kingdom. Why would He push anyone away? Think of the story of the prodigal son. He chooses to leave his father’s loving home. He leaves, isn’t able to resist sin, but then he comes back, because “he came to himself” (Lk 15:17). Now all is forgiven. He is given his [...]

How to Actualize the Image of God in You by Anthony M Coniaris

How to Actualize the Image of God in You by Anthony M Coniaris We are all made in God’s image. But to be in His likeness is only granted to those who deny their own will to follow God’s will. In this book, Anthony Coniaris guides us Christians on our way towards theosis: towards union with God. We are described as iconographers of our lives. We are iconographers, and each and every one of us has a grand icon to construct. The image of God in us is the God-given capacity of love.  Archbishop Demetrius quotes: “We should distinguish ourselves [...]

Why doesn’t God destroy the devil?

Why doesn’t God destroy the devil? The devil does exist.  One of his many tricks is to fool us into believing he does not exist.  There are people in our community who make money out of fortune telling, sorcery, astrology, séances, and other satanic practices - it is very important that we keep well away from such things.  A much more common situation we all face is being tempted by the devil.  The temptation is not the sin; it is not our fault. But if we give in to it, if we allow that passion to remain in us, then [...]
