With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos, a group of around 20 members of the Greek Orthodox Christian Society visited the parish of St John the Baptist, Cairns, on the weekend of July 21-22. The group was very warmly received by Fr Menelaos Hatzoglou and the entire parish community. From Friday 13 July to Sunday 15 July, boys from the youth fellowships (Ομάδες) of Kogarah, Belmore, Earlwood and Parramatta held their mid-year retreat at Mangrove Mountain, north of Sydney. The highlight of this retreat was the Divine Liturgy Service held at Pantanassa Monastery, celebrated by Abbot Eusebios, along with his subsequent talk which left a lasting impression on the boys. In the July school holidays, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Meson Girls Day at Marrickville church. It was a beautiful day full of craft, games and songs. The first part of our schedule was outdoor activities. We walked around the corner to a small park. There we were spilt into groups and played a variety of games, including a mix of soccer and netball and an interesting game involving pegs. The next part of our schedule was lunch. On the first Sunday in July, all the high-school boys from all the parishes in Sydney went to Gough Whitlam Park in Earlwood to participate in an exciting soccer tournament. It was a great event where all the boys put in all their energy and enthusiasm trying to win the cup. Following an intense grand final, Kogarah Sunday School came out victorious. It was a fun, enjoyable day for everyone involved.
